Media Notes

In N.Y., Michael de la Merced cited sources as saying that Disney has "resumed talks" with Fox about "buying at least part of the company." The sources added that Fox also is "still in talks with Comcast about a potential deal" (NYTIMES.com, 12/2). The WALL STREET JOURNAL's Mattioli & Sharma cited sources as saying that Fox News, the Fox broadcast network and FS1 "aren't expected to be sold in any transaction." Sources added that Fox Exec Chair Rupert Murdoch and his family "expect to make a decision by year's end" (WSJ.com, 12/2). In L.A., Meg James reported Comcast remains "keenly interested" in Fox' RSNs (LATIMES.com, 12/2).

CLOSING WITH STYLE: In N.Y., Bob Raissman noted Mike Francesa has "talked about wanting to go out as No. 1 in his final ratings book," but his WFAN sow in November was only "good for second in the marketplace" among the key 25-54 male demo. Michael Kay's show on ESPN Radio 98.7 N.Y. was in" third in the marketplace and still in striking distance" Francesa's spot (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 12/3).

GREAT EXPECTATIONS: Fox' Rob Stone said the net during this summer's FIFA World Cup from Russia will "over-deliver ... even with the U.S. out." He said, "Our commitment to the sport and the event will be clear, and not just because more games will be presented on broadcast television than the last four World Cups combined." He cited the net's use of VR and called the partnership with NatGeo a "tremendous resource." Stone: "Our set in Red Square will impress, and we've collected a well-rounded and diverse crew to speak to the game" (SOCCERAMERICA.com, 12/4).
