Uncertainty Surrounds RSM Classic's Calendar Spot Amid PGA Tour Schedule Changes

There is an "element of doubt" as to whether or not the PGA Tour RSM Classic will continue to be held the week before Thanksgiving after several calendar changes take place beginning in the '18-19 season, according to Garry Smits of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. Tour officials have "declined to speculate" on any trickle-down effect. Davis Love III, the RSM Classic host and one of four player-directors on the PGA Tour Policy Board, said that "trying to decipher a future schedule is premature." Love: "I’m confused on it, so I know if a board member’s still confused on it, the Tour’s still working it out. It’s too early to tell."  Love said that he will meet with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan after Thanksgiving to "try to get a feel for what the seismic changes will mean" for the tournament in St. Simons Island, Ga. (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 11/16). In Georgia, Buddy Hughes wrote where the RSM Classic "fits into the schedule remains to be seen." Love said, "There's a lot of moving parts" (THEBRUNSWICKNEWS.com, 11/15).

STILL SEARCHING
: In Ft. Worth, Alice Barr noted Colonial Country Club and the city have until Dec. 1 to "find a new sponsor" for the PGA Tour event after Dean & DeLuca "broke its six-year contract and dropped out." Event officials "feel confident they'll have new sponsorships in place by the PGA's deadline." Colonial President Rob Doby said, "We're confident that we're going to get there and be able to have an event here in 2018 and beyond" (NBCDFW.com, 11/15).
