Washington State will be "eyeing both internal and external candidates" as it searches for its next AD, but the school is "stressing quality rather than quickness" as it looks to replace Bill Moos, according to Theo Lawson of the Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW. WSU President Kirk Schulz "outlined a vague timeline for when he hopes to have the next AD in office." The school will "enlist the help of an outside search firm, but state law prohibits that from happening for at least a few weeks." That search firm, and a seven-person search committee Schulz announced Monday, will then "identify a list of potential candidates." Schulz plans to have the school’s new AD "named by approximately Feb. 1." Schulz said, "We are going to look nationally for the absolute best candidates, whether they're in our backyard or whether they're somewhere else." Lawson notes although Schulz "didn't strictly say WSU will only consider" sitting ADs, he "maintained it's important the university finds someone who won't have to learn on the job." Someone who has "spent time as an AD at a fellow Power Five school could be beneficial for WSU." Third on Schulz' checklist "will be fundraising." Schulz emphasized that it is "essential the university maintains an aggressive approach from a revenue standpoint" (Spokane SPOKESMAN-REVIEW, 10/18). In Seattle, Stefanie Loh reports WSU Senior Associate AD/Athletics John Johnson "will lead" the school as interim AD. Johnson yesterday said that he will "not be a candidate for the permanent position though he hopes to stay on at WSU" after the new AD is hired (SEATTLE TIMES, 10/18).

HUSKER DU: In Lincoln, Parker Gabriel reported Moos "signed his five-year contract" at Nebraska last Friday, "two days before" NU announced him as their new AD. Moos will start Oct. 23 and is set to make $1M in '18 and then an "annual $50,000 raise" through '22. If Moos is "still employed on Dec. 31, 2022," he is due a $1.25M deferred compensation payment. There are also "three main incentive provisions in Moos’ contract that could add more than $500,000 annually to his deal" (, 10/17).
