PGA Tour Discussing Dates On '18-19 Schedule For Possible Event In Twin Cities

PGA Tour execs will "hold a meeting next week to discuss potential dates for a tournament at TPC Twin Cities" during the summer of '19, according to Chad Graff of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. A PGA Tour Champions event, the 3M Championship, currently is held in Minneapolis, and event Exec Dir Hollis Cavner has "pitched the idea of keeping 3M as a sponsor for a PGA Tour event." Cavner said that the Tour is "on board with the idea but still needs to select a tournament date" for '19. The Tour has "offered Cavner and TPC Twin Cities dates" on their '19 schedule, but Cavner is "hoping for a different weekend than they've offered." He "appears to be pushing for the tournament to be held the last weekend of June or the first weekend in July" and is "likely aiming for the first weekend of July." A vacancy that week was created when Tiger Woods' DC-area tournament was "left without a sponsor." Cavner said, "They want to be there -- everybody from the commissioner on down." While TPC Twin Cities has hosted the 3M Championship for the past 25 years, Cavner "admitted changes would need to be made for the course to handle PGA Tour players" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 10/10).
