Univ. Of Minnesota, TCF Bank Amend Naming-Rights Deal For Football Stadium

The Univ. of Minnesota and TCF Bank have agreed to "amend the naming-rights deal to TCF Bank Stadium," and as part of the agreement, TCF contributed $8M to UM's Athletes Village, according to Jace Frederick of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. The initial naming-rights deal, signed in '05, was for 26 years and $35M. Under terms of the amended agreement, TCF will have an "option to extend its sponsorship and the naming rights for TCF Bank Stadium for another 10 years" through the '40 season. Exercising that option would include a $4M "initial contribution" to the university. The amendment also provides UM with $541,000 in "additional revenue over the remaining term of the agreement." As part of the deal, TCF will have "two new naming marks on the field at TCF Bank Stadium," starting with UM’s home game against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 16. The words “TCF Bank Stadium” will be "featured on each 25-yard line and TCF’s new corporate logo will be featured on the boundary at the 10-yard line." A new stadium logo, which will be unveiled prior to the '18 season, will "replace the current stadium logo on the scoreboards and in other prominent locations." Frederick notes the Athletes Village project "includes new practice facilities and office space for football and men’s and women’s basketball." It is scheduled to open in January, but UM has "not met its goal of raising all the money from private contributions" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 9/8).
