Bristol Motor Speedway Exec VP & GM Jerry Caldwell in a statement said BMS has "submitted a proposal" to manage Nashville's Fairgrounds Speedway and serve as its promoter (THE DAILY). In Nashville, Nate Rau notes BMS is "at least the second applicant to operate and promote races at the fairgrounds." Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville Racing Promoter Tony Formosa "also applied for the contract." The bid by BMS "brings another level of intrigue to the future of the fairgrounds property," which Mayor Megan Barry's administration has also "picked as the site for a professional soccer stadium." The plan is for the racetrack and soccer stadium to "co-exist there" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 8/31).

STAYING CONNECTED: In Detroit, Frank Witsil reports Olympia Entertainment, which operates Little Caesars Arena, and Comcast will "offer high-speed connections to the web inside the arena and throughout a 50-block area dubbed District Detroit." Comcast said that it invested more than $11M in the project, including $1M worth of "routers and equipment, to install fiber-optic cable and more than 1,000 Wi-Fi access points in the stadium" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 8/31).

TIME TO DECIDE: THE ATHLETIC's Marcus Thompson noted A's President Dave Kaval for months has "toured the Bay Area, inviting input from fans about the direction of the franchise, namely the new stadium project he is steering." The research "has been gathered," and the input of the community "has been digested." The options have been "whittled down to a trio," and all that is left is for the A's to "get the ball rolling." Thompson: "This is where we see what Kaval's made of." Kaval would "not provide any more specifics than his by-the-end-of-the-year deadline." But he said that the announcement of the site where they plan to build this "privately-funded palace for the A's will be layered" (THEATHLETIC.com, 8/30).
