College Facility Notes: Arkansas' Final Game At Little Rock's War Memorial Stadium?

In Fayetteville, Wally Hall noted tonight's Florida A&M-Arkansas game is in Little Rock and asked, "Will this be the final date between the Razorbacks and War Memorial Stadium, possibly ending a long and storied history that helped make the Hogs the state's team?" Arkansas has a "year left on the contract" for a game in Little Rock and it "calls for a game next season against an SEC opponent." But at this point, it "seems a possibility that perhaps" the Arkansas athletic department will "reach into its deep pockets and just offer to buy the game out for $350,000 to $500,000." The school nets about $1M "more for a game in Fayetteville than Little Rock" (ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE, 8/28).

WILDCAT FORMATION: Arizona football coach Rich Rodriguez on Monday said "there might be news forthcoming" and that "there's been some momentum building" toward plans coming to fruition for an indoor facility. In Tucson, Zack Rosenblatt noted a note on the school site states the facility has a "'current budget' of $20,000, though the projected budget" is $15M. Other details, such as "when (and where) the facility would be built are unclear." Meanwhile, there will be a $22M "five-level parking structure on the South side of Arizona Stadium that is expected to be finished in time for the season" (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 8/29). Also in Tucson, Greg Hansen wrote of an Arizona practice facility, "Let’s just hope its not one of those blimpy-type, eye-sore white bubbles that Arizona State erected a few years ago" (ARIZONA DAILY STAR, 8/29).

ORANGE GROVE: In New York, Chris Carlson noted Syracuse Univ. last week "completed a renovation of the home locker rooms and the training rooms inside the Carrier Dome." New lockers, furniture, carpeting, a new energy-efficient ventilation system and a raised ceiling were "among the improvements." Meanwhile, SU has "not provided details or a time frame for the larger Carrier Dome renovation in nearly a year" (Syracuse POST-STANDARD, 8/26).
