Boise State Struggling To Sell Tickets For Season Opener, Continuing Recent Decline

Boise State will have a daytime kickoff at Albertsons Stadium for the first time since '13 on Saturday in the season opener, but fans "still aren't buying tickets," according to Dave Southorn of the IDAHO STATESMAN. Boise State AD Curt Apsey on Monday said that even if students use their full allotment, the school "still would have 9,000-10,000 tickets to sell." Apsey said that the days leading up to the first home game "tend to provide strong ticket sales, but it's still a pretty big surprise to see only 26,000 tickets or so sold." Southorn noted since that last daytime kickoff, 17 of BSU's 24 home games have kicked off at 8:00pm PT or later, "including all six last season." Apsey said that season-ticket sales "were 'about 90 percent of what we budgeted'" (IDAHO STATESMAN, 8/29). In Idaho, B.J. Rains noted a crowd of 26,000 on Saturday would be BSU's "smallest in several years." The last time the school "didn't have at least 30,000 for a season opener" was '06 against Sacramento State, when they drew 29,647. BSU also has "added several things to the fan experience inside Albertsons Stadium." Apsey said, "We listened. We didn't answer every single concern that they had, but I think we addressed a few of them and I think they will be noticeable on game day" (IDAHO PRESS-TRIBUNE, 8/28).
