Las Vegas Motor Speedway and SMI officials yesterday announced that The Strip has "embarked on an ambitious construction program to expand the two-lane dragstrip to a four-lane facility." NBCSPORTS.com's Jerry Bonkowski noted the enhanced track will "mirror that of its sister track, zMax Dragway, across from Charlotte Motor Speedway." When completed, The Strip will hold the "first four-lane drag race in the Western U.S. on April 4-6, 2018" (NBCSPORTS.com, 8/23).
CHICAGO STYLE: In Chicago, Madeline Kenney notes Northwestern yesterday hosted a media tour of the new Ryan Fieldhouse and Walter Athletics Center to "show the project’s progress since it first broke ground" in November '15. The two facilities, which are connected and "expected to be completed by next summer, consist of just the steel beam framing with a few windows." It is "hard to imagine" what the $270M projects will look like "once it’s completed." But one thing is "for sure," the view of the Chicago skyline and Lake Michigan is "second to none" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/24).
PLAY BALL: The Single-A South Atlantic League Augusta Greenjackets' ballpark in North Augusta "will be named SRP Park." The team and SRP Federal Credit Union officials "refused to divulge the price for the rights, but the city will get $100,000 from the sale as part of its deal with the Greenjackets" (AUGUSTA CHRONICLE, 8/23).
