Georgia Tech Consulting With NFL Exec On School's Branding; Apparel Talks Continue

Georgia Tech is addressing its branding under AD Todd Stansbury, who said it is "gradually getting to the point where we’re refining the message, refining the look.” Stansbury in his monthly podcast said GT has been working with NFL Senior VP/Marketing Jaime Weston, a '16 SBJ/SBD "Game Changer," on the process. Stansbury: “We’ve got (to) know what our word marks look like, we want to know what our story is so that when we do have an apparel partner we’re not flatfooted in that process.” GT's apparel deal with Russell Athletic ends next June, and Stansbury said school officials are still speaking with potential partners, and "things are going well.” Stansbury: “Hopefully in the not too distant future we’ll be able to make that announcement. It’s still progressing.” He noted with regard to branding, a lot of "thought and effort has to go into the history of the institute and how that logo is going to represent the DNA, the history, all the things we associate with the institute.” Stansbury: “We’re not going to touch the ‘GT’ but we are going to make sure that the ‘GT’ you see is the same every single time. When you see the ‘GT’ now there may be multiple renditions and while it looks almost the same, it’s not always the same. So when you go through this process you want to get to the point where ... there’s a consistency” (“The Todd Stansbury Podcast,” RAMBLINWRECK.com, 7/31). GT's ideation and branding office is taking the lead on the brand definition efforts, headed by Assistant AD/Brand & Ideation Simit Shah and Dir of Brand & Ideation Brad Malone (THE DAILY).
