PRESIDENT TRUMP on Friday tweeted he planned to attend the U.S. Women's Open "this afternoon" after returning from Paris (TWITTER.com, 7/14). There have been "signs of a presidential visit all week." One "telling sign after Thursday's first round" was that players "were told to arrive early to prepare for their tee times on Friday because there would be extra security measures in place" (NORTHJERSEY.com, 7/14).

Knight cited shoes as a product people still like to buy in retail stores
AUTO PLAY: Nike's PHIL KNIGHT was interviewed at Allen & Co.’s Sun Valley Conference about the "future of retail and how automation might play a part." Knight said that automation will "become more prevalent and then talked about the social impact that might come from that -- both the pros and cons." He said that the brick-and-mortar retail business will "continue to decrease as consumer spending grows online but some consumer products are safer -- like shoes -- and shoppers will still want to buy those products in retail stores" (DEADLINE.com, 7/13).

FRONT KICK: UFC fighter DANIEL CORMIER was profiled in the N.Y Times' "List of Five" fashion section piece. Cormier said he is a "huge Air Jordan guy." Cormier: "I have so many Jordans, but I don’t wear all the new stuff with all the new colors. I only wear the ones that Michael played in." He added, "My cousin’s girlfriend works at Louboutin, so I have a whole bunch of shoes from Louboutin. But I will never wear a pair of his spiky shoes. The Louboutins I have look like regular tennis shoes but with red soles" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/14).

THE GOOD STUFF: The family of PETE FRATES, the inspiration behind the Ice Bucket Challenge, has their "sights set on raising cash to help relieve the financial burden facing some of those who are afflicted" with ALS. They are "hoping to expand the brand-new Peter Frates Home Health Initiative, which will provide in-home care-giving assistance to those living with ALS in Massachusetts who cannot otherwise pay for medical services" (BOSTON HERALD, 7/14)....Orioles 1B CHRIS DAVIS on Thursday helped host Crush's Homers for Hearts. Davis said that he hoped this was the first of what would be "an annual event to raise money for the Pediatric Heart Program" at Univ. of Maryland Children's Hospital. In addition to the "home run derby-like challenge event, Davis and his wife, JILL, hosted patients for a T-ball event and met with the event's participants and sponsors" (Baltimore SUN, 7/14)....This year’s fifth annual Dave & Dan Classic in North Plains, Ore., raised more than $1.273M to support Credit Unions for Kids, benefiting six Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington. The event is named after Pro Football HOFers DAVE WILCOX and DAN FOUTS (Dave & Dan Classic).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft
