Audience Analysis: Kentucky NASCAR Cup Series Race Hits New Low On NBCSN

NBCSN on Saturday night averaged 2.71 million viewers for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400, marking a new low for the primetime race at Kentucky Speedway. The Kentucky telecast has declined each of the last four years. Last year’s race averaged 3.19 miillion viewers, while the ’15 race drew 3.22 million viewers in its first year on NBCSN. It debuted in ’11 on TNT to 4.97 million viewers.

GAME ON: Sunday night’s episode of “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC featured several sports stars participating. In one contest, current NFLers including Le'Veon Bell and Joe Thomas took on several former NFLers including Marshall Faulk and Rod Woodson. In another contest, former NBAers including James Worthy and Gary Payton faced off against former MLBers including Ozzie Smith and Pedro Martinez. The episode averaged 6.84 million viewers from 8:00-9:00pm ET, just below the show’s season-to-date average of 6.96 million viewers after five episodes. Meanwhile, ABC on Sunday night also had a sports-themed episode of “The $100,000 Pyramid” featuring Panthers QB Cam Newton vs. Giants WR Brandon Marshall and Titans WR Eric Decker vs. Gold Medal-winning U.S. speedskater Apolo Ohno. That episode averaged 4.61 million viewers from 10:00-11:00pm, below the show’s average of 5.18 million viewers through five episodes this season to date.
