Misfired Shell During Fireworks Display Damages Upper Deck Of Nissan Stadium

A firework shell that "misfired in Tuesday night's Nashville Fourth of July celebration caused damage at Nissan Stadium," according to Terry McCormick of TITANINSIDER.com. The extent of the damage as of yesterday afternoon was "still [being] assessed." The firework shell hit Nissan Stadium on the "west side of the upper deck," causing it to "blow out both concrete and some seats in the stadium." Metro Nashville Sports Authority Exec Dir Monica Fawknotson said, "I don't think this is going to interrupt any events at the stadium." Fawknotson said that Tennessee-based Pyro Shows, which put on the fireworks display, will be "responsible for the cost of the stadium repairs." Two CONCACAF Gold Cup matches are scheduled for Saturday at Nissan Stadium (TITANINSIDER.com, 7/5). There were no injuries during the incident. Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. President & CEO Butch Spyridon said that during shows like the one on Tuesday, around a "dozen or so either don't fire, or misfire, including the rogue shell that took out seats on the second deck of Nissan Stadium" (WKRN.com, 7/5).
