SunTrust Park To Host College Football Game In '18; Could Become Annual Event

A college football game “will be played at SunTrust Park" in '18, as the Braves’ new ballpark “will be transformed from diamond to gridiron” for a Jacksonville State-Kennesaw State game, according to Tim Tucker of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. For the Nov. 17 game, the football field will be “set up with one end zone along baseball’s first-base line and the other end zone along the warning track in left field.” A seating configuration of “about 25,000 is anticipated, with the right-field seats excluded.” Braves President of Development Mike Plant said, “We won’t have to make any modifications other than taking the pitcher’s mound out and home plate out.” Plant said that although SunTrust Park’s agreement with Kennesaw State is for the ‘18 game only, the Braves would “like to have at least one college football game annually in the stadium” (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 6/10).
