Pistons Rolling Out New Primary Logo, With Unveiling Set For NBA Draft Lottery

The Pistons have released a new primary logo to be officially unveiled on the team’s podium at tonight’s NBA Draft Lottery. The new look comes as the Pistons mark a new chapter in their history as the team moves from their longtime suburban home at the Palace of Auburn Hills to Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit next season, where they will share the facility with the Red Wings. The new logo features a red, white and blue basketball and the addition of a chrome outline, which team officials said is a recognition of the area’s automotive industry. The team designed the logo in-house in collaboration with the NBA and Nike, which next season replaces adidas as the league's official uniform outfitter (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

WHAT CHANGE? ESPN's Michael Wilbon said of the new logo looking very similar to the old one, "Have all of the marketing people report to the central office, bring your IDs, because somebody is going on a vacation if this is called work product." ESPN's Tony Kornheiser said the new logo "right now is the old one" ("PTI," ESPN, 5/15).
