Tisch, Cuban Make Cameos On Showtime's "Billions" As Part Of NFL Team Sale Plotline

Showtime’s “BILLIONS” has made the sale of an unnamed NFL team part of its plotline this season, and pro team owners have now appeared in back-to-back episodes. Last week it was NFL Giants Chair & Exec VP STEVE TISCH showing up at MetLife Stadium with the character Bobby Axelrod, played by DAMIAN LEWIS, who is attempting to buy the team. Last night, it was Mavericks Owner MARK CUBAN making a cameo to offer advice as Axelrod becomes involved in some public lawsuits against the government. Cuban, referring to his long, public fight with the Securities & Exchange Commission, said to Axelrod, "I spent seven years and more money than I care to admit fighting the SEC just to clear my name.” Axelrod: “And you did!” Cuban: “F**k yeah I did. But in those seven years, I tried to buy two baseball teams. You may notice -- I don’t own a baseball team.” Axelrod: “You think the SEC was the deal breaker?” Cuban: “It f**king didn’t help. That’s for damn sure. Look Axe, we’re different. We didn’t inherit our money. We earned it calling bullshit early, often and very publicly. The NFL doesn’t like that shit. They’re afraid you’re gonna break etiquette, come in long and loud. They think you’re gonna be the Mark Cuban of the NFL” (“Billions,” Showtime, 3/12).
