FC Dallas' Website To Have Exclusive Streaming For Pair Of MLS Matches

FC Dallas' May 31 game against the Fire and Sept. 27 contest against the Rapids will be "available exclusively via stream on FCDallas.com," according to Peter Welpton of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. FC Dallas VP/Media & Communications Gina Miller said the new option came about as the club "purchased its digital rights" back from MLS. This "allows the club to stream all 26 of their self-produced games on its website." Those streams will be "geo-locked" to the Dallas-Ft. Worth market, and the radius "will likely fall within a standard market definitions." Any FC Dallas game that is not a national broadcast "will be available online via the club's website," which "may be a league first." The May 31 and Sept. 27 broadcasts are the team's two Wednesday night home games, "generally a tough ticket sale for a club" that has "found itself at the bottom of the league's attendance rankings." FC Dallas "does not have a TV rights deal" with an RSN, but 24 of the team's 32 MLS games "will be available across the entire DFW area" on KTXA-Ind., which hosted most of the games last season. Eight of the other games "will be found in national broadcasts." The commentating trio of Mark Followill, Daniel Robertson and Bob Sturm will "interchange in the broadcast booth" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/11).
