ICM Partners Acquires Headline Media, Which Reps Notable Sports Broadcasters

Hollywood agency ICM Partners is acquiring broadcast boutique firm Headline Media Management, which represents dozens of news and sports broadcasters, including ESPN's Chris Berman and Mike Golic and former network personality Tom Jackson. As part of the acquisition, HMM CEO Lou Oppenheim and President Michael Glantz will join ICM as partners and head the agency's broadcast division. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Oppenheim and Glantz will continue to operate out of N.Y. Glantz: "Lou and I go in as partners. I will run the news and programming side of it. Lou will run the sports side of it." Glantz would not say the number of broadcasters HMM, and now ICM, represents as a result of the acquisition. But clients include, among others, Westwood One's Kevin Harlan, NBC's Mike Emrick, Eddie Olczyk and Pierre McGuire, CBS' Brad Nessler and ESPN's Ryan Clark. All employees of HMM will be joining ICM. The business will continue to operate under the HMM name, for now, but will be rebranded under ICM at some point in the future. HMM was founded in '04 when Oppenheim and Glantz launched it, after Clear Channel Communications bought the former SFX Entertainment. The two started working together, representing broadcasters as part of the one of the companies acquired by SFX, the former Athletes & Artists in '90. HMM had a previous business relationship with ICM and talks about an acquisition came out of that relationship, Glantz said. "We've been in business informally for a few years," Glantz said. "I actually hired them, probably four or five years ago to represent Meredith Viera's production company. So this is actually very organic. We became very friendly with the ICM people."
