USA Volleyball Hires Former Fanatics, Versus Boss Jamie Davis As Its New CEO
USA Volleyball reached outside of its sport’s hierarchy for its seventh CEO as the NGB hired JAMIE DAVIS, a sports business exec who has more experience running TV networks and e-commerce sites. Davis will become the first outsider to serve as USA Volleyball CEO. A formal announcement is expected to be made later today. Davis has been working as a consultant for the NGB the past two years. He previously was President of the online retailer Fanatics. Before that, he was President of Versus, the cable channel that eventually became NBCSN. In making the hire, USA Volleyball decided that Davis’ background in media, marketing and business will help fuel growth -- from participation rates to sponsorship dollars. “Given my background in finance, marketing and media, I can expand USA Volleyball’s business into new and different areas,” Davis said. USA Volleyball is depending on Davis to help find new revenue streams -- including e-commerce opportunities -- to help grow the sport and support the NGB’s 40 regional volleyball associations. USA Volleyball also will rely on Davis’ NBC connections to help the sport’s position on television. Davis replaces DOUG BEAL, who retired at the end of '16 after an 11-year run overseeing the NGB and a 46-year affiliation as a player, coach and exec. The position is based in Colorado Springs. USA Volleyball’s BOD, chaired by LORI OKIMURA, hired exec search firm Russell Reynolds Associates to conduct the search. USA Volleyball also convened a search committee that included MISTY MAY-TREANOR, TAYYIBA HANEEF-PARK and BRENT RASMUSSEN.
