Red Hawks, Desert Hawks Eliminated As Vegas NHL Names; Nighthawks Still An Option

The names Red Hawks and Desert Hawks "have been eliminated" as potential monikers for the new NHL Las Vegas team, but Nighthawks is still "in play," according to Steve Carp of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL. Owner Bill Foley "refuted internet reports Friday that the team has decided against 'Hawks' in the name after it was reported Thursday that Black Knight Sports and Entertainment had legally secured the three names." Foley added that "two other names have been submitted for copyright, trademark and domain rights" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Those names, which Foley would not reveal, "also would be in play pending a final decision in the coming days" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 8/13).
