Stadium-Wide Beer Sales Coming To Ohio State Football After '15 Trial Program Success

Beer "will be sold stadium-wide" at Ohio Stadium for Ohio State football games next season, according to a front-page piece by Mary Morgan Edwards of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH. OSU Athletic Council Facilities & Finance Committee Chair Jack Miner said last year's trial program that made beer available at football games only in the club and suite levels "went incredibly well." Like last year, the stadium "will continue to sell beer case by case at some concerts and other events, including the Buckeye Country Superfest" on June 18-19. Levy Restaurants Senior Dir of Communication Strategy Jenn Sutherland said that last year's limited beer sales "brought in about $35,000." Additionally, OSU "has plans for the coming season's beer money," as "they're earmarking $300,000 to pay for two new full-time, year-round police-officer positions for the university police department, as well as $50,000 for research into how the presence of alcohol affects campus events and how to prevent problems." Sutherland said that Levy "is confident the expanded sales will cover those commitments" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 6/9). In Columbus, Evan Weese noted the policy "doesn't extend to liquor." Only two beers "can be purchased at a time and that sales will end with 10 minutes left in the third quarter." OSU's test last season in the suite and club levels "included a total of 4,370 seats" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 6/8).
