Polartec To Title Sponsor Upcoming Big Air Competition At Fenway Park

Organizers of February's big air ski and snowboarding competition at Fenway Park have signed premium textile maker Polartec as title sponsor. The Polartec Big Air at Fenway, slated for Feb. 11-12, is the U.S. Ski & Snowboarding Association’s first attempt at holding a major event at a large urban venue. USSA and Fenway Sports Management are sharing the costs and revenue of the event, and jointly sold marketing rights. Financial terms were not disclosed. Massachusetts-based Polartec creates the fabric used in clothing brands such as L.L. Bean, Duluth Trading Co. and The North Face. Polartec will activate its rights with a warming station inside the visitor’s dugout, along with a VIP lounge in the visitor clubhouse. The company will sponsor all weather reports within the NBC Sports broadcast. The event, part of the U.S. Grand Prix tour and a sanctioned Int'l Ski Federation World Cup event, will consist of snowboarders and skiers performing tricks off a single 140-foot high ramp arranged in centerfield. The snowboarding discipline will debut in the '18 PyeongChang Games. Tickets for the event will go on sale tomorrow. Polartec North American Marketing Manager Darren Josey said, “We’ve been a key ingredient in the best ski and snowboard gear since we invented synthetic fleece back in 1981 and we want to continue to invest in the sports that push the boundaries of athletes and their apparel.”
