Warriors Unveil '14-15 NBA Championship Rings At Home Opener Against Pelicans

The Warriors last night during a pregame ceremony prior to their season opener against the Pelicans unveiled their '14-15 championship rings, which "more than 6 carats of diamonds and sapphires, and more than 90 grams of 14-karat gold," according to a front-page piece by Bruce Jenkins of the S.F. CHRONICLE. The top of the ring, "representing the team’s Bay Bridge logo," is made of 67% gold (roughly 16 carats), "to reflect the number of last season’s regular-season wins." The numbers 1975 and 2015, "representing the team’s NBA championship years in the Bay Area," appear on the rings. There are a "total of 240 stones set in the ring, reflecting the 240 Warriors victories" since the Joe Lacob-Peter Guber ownership group took over. As a "special touch for the sake of authentication," each player’s ring "has four fluorescent diamonds, visible only under black light and thus requiring a certain device for illumination." That number "symbolizes the four championships the Warriors have won in their history." The Warriors "took great care in designing their rings, with input" from Lacob, Guber and players Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, among others. Fans at Oracle Arena last night "were given blue shirts and yellow-tinted flashlights to set the mood" for the ring presentation (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/28).

LET ME TAKE A LONG, LAST LOOK: In San Jose, Marcus Thompson notes last night's game gave Warriors fans "one final chance ... to collectively boast from the throne before every team is equal again." The "decibels started rising" when the team took the court, and "chants of 'Warriors! Warriors!' broke out" when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver began the ring ceremony. The crowd went "especially nuts" for coach Steve Kerr and assistant Alvin Gentry, who is now coaching the Pelicans. Curry got the "loudest and longest cheer of the night," but the "most-embraced cheers" were for Lacob (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 10/28).
