Names In The News

Paramount Pictures has “secured the rights” to UFC fighter RONDA ROUSEY’s autobiography, “MY FIGHT/YOUR FIGHT," with Rousey slated to star in the film. Disruption Entertainment Founder MARY PARENT is producing along with Rousey, and screenwriter MARK BOMBACK is “on board” to adapt the book. No timetable has been set on when the film would go into production (HOLLYWOODREPORTER.com, 8/3). FS1's Petros Papadakis said, "We’re talking about a transcendent, dominant athlete that a lot of people are paying a lot of attention to. She’s charismatic, she’s fun to talk to, she’s beautiful, she’s got a great story with a lot of strife, and the Olympics, and dropping out of Santa Monica High School. … There’s a lot involved in her story, and I think it could be a great story to be told" ("Fox Sports Live: Countdown," FS1, 8/4). Meanwhile, Rousey also has "signed on to star in the Warner Bros. action film 'THE ATHENA PROJECT'" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 8/4).

JUSTICE FOR ALL: Michigan football coach JIM HARBAUGH in April "scored meetings with five justices" on the U.S. Supreme Court. He "shook hands" with Justice ANTHONY KENNEDY and "snagged a picture" with RUTH BADER GINSBURG. Harbaugh also gave Justice ELENA KAGAN "his heavily underlined book" about late Alabama football coach BEAR BRYANT. Kagan then "asked him to sign it." He also "sat down in the office of Chief Justice JOHN ROBERTS."  But Harbaugh "really hit it off" with Justice CLARENCE THOMAS. Harbaugh said that "he tried to sell Thomas, a noted Nebraska football fan who drives his RV to Huskers games, on adopting Michigan as his second-favorite team" (WSJ.com, 8/3). Meanwhile, Harbaugh and Tigers President, CEO & GM DAVE DOMBROWSKI "spent time last night" at the Jack's Place for Autism Foundation charity event at Joe Louis Arena (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 8/4).

FREEZE FRAME: Beijing's recent win as host city for the '22 Games "could entangle China in a dispute with the Walt Disney Company or at least attract ridicule." Some have asserted that the official song of the Games, “THE SNOW AND ICE DANCE," is "suspiciously similar to 'LET IT GO,' the wildly popular ballad sung by IDINA MENZEL in the Disney animated film 'FROZEN'” (N.Y. TIMES, 8/4).

NAMES: IOC member JIM EASTON (U.S.) was "not re-elected due to age restrictions." Easton's departure "leaves three IOC members" from the U.S. -- LARRY PROBST, ANITA DEFRANTZ and ANGELA RUGGIERO (AP, 8/3)....Texans Owner BOB MCNAIR "gave $500,000 to the super PAC" supporting U.S. Sen. MITCH MCCONNELL's re-election campaign in Kentucky, the "largest ever disclosed contribution to the McConnell super PAC." 76ers and Devils co-Owner DAVID BLITZER also contributed to the Senate Leadership Fund during its "first five months of existence" (COURIERJOURNAL.com, 8/3)....Thunder F KEVIN DURANT and NFL Giants Chair & Exec VP STEVE TISCH are among a "group of 17 investors" looking to revamp Tiger Beat magazine (NYTIMES.com, 8/3)....UConn men's basketball coach KEVIN OLLIE held his charity golf tournament yesterday at Glastonbury Hills Country Club, raising funds and awareness to "provide opportunities for athletes with disabilities." He is "focused on the 'Kevin's Kourts' program, which will start with a wheelchair-accessible basketball court in West Hartford" (HARTFORD COURANT, 8/4)....TIGER WOODS has "received the certificate of occupancy for his new restaurant" in Jupiter, Fla. The Woods Jupiter is "expected to open later this month" (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 8/4).
