Wizards' Kelly Oubre Jr. Leads Draft Fashion Parade With Red Suit, Spiked Shoes

The NBA Draft over the years has become a virtual red carpet, as attendees have garnered as many headlines and tweets for their attire as for their on-court talent. Thursday night's proceedings were no different, with style expert Sam Saboura giving former Kansas F Kelly Oubre Jr. his "best-dressed of the night" award. Oubre, who was drafted by the Hawks and subsequently traded to the Wizards, wore a crimson suit, and Saboura said, "I love this kind of nod to the 1960's. He’s got the no socks, and you’re noticing right away spiked gold shoes there -- big, big talk all night about these shoes. ... That shoe game is definitely on point." Saboura: "I like the slim suit. He looks fantastic” ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 6/26). SB NATION's Rodger Sherman wrote people would typically "freak out about Oubre's shoes, but he got beat to the punch by two months" by Jaguars DE Dante Fowler, who "rocked pretty much the same shoes at the NFL Draft" (SBNATION.com, 6/25).

BIG BLUE FASHION NATION: Saboura commented on the appearance of several other draftees, including the T'Wolves' Karl-Anthony Towns. Saboura said, "You really couldn't miss him in this printed jacket here. I'm a fan of some parts of this, some parts I don't love. He's got those Prada shoes rocking right there with the no socks on. This is a very tall gentleman, and that double-breasted jacket didn't really work out so well for me. But I do like the print on the jacket.” ESPN's Stan Verrett noted Towns earlier indicated he was in a “bit of a competition” with former Kentucky teammate and Kings draft pick Willie Cauley-Stein for the best dressed. Saboura said Cauley-Stein "looks pretty fantastic." Saboura: "I’m really digging that monogrammed necklace, that bright blue polka dot bow tie” ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 6/26). The bow tie Cauley-Stein wore was from Mo's Bows. Moziah Bridges, the 13-year-old CEO of the company, said, "That was an original for him. I made that especially for him" ("2015 NBA Draft," ESPN, 6/25).

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS: Hornets draftee Frank Kaminsky had two tanks embroidered on the inside of his coat, playing off his "Frank the Tank" nickname. Saboura said it might be a little "over the top," but it is a "little subtle" since it is inside the jacket. Saboura: “He can whip it out when he wants to.” Meanwhile, Lakers draft pick D'Angelo Russell donned a red jacket with his yellow Lakers hat, and Saboura noted there was a "ketchup and mustard situation happening right here." He added, "I love this from the top up. I love the nod to Ohio. We’ve got to welcome him with open arms. He’s definitely doing some summer style for California with those white pants. I do like the look. The best part is he's really pulling it off, he's really owning it, so I dig it” ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 6/26). SI.com's Ben Golliver writes of Kaminsky's tank-lined jacket, "It's your world, Frank, we're all just living in it" (SI.com, 6/26).
