Hornets Unveil Black Alternate "Buzz City" Uniform For Upcoming NBA Season

The Hornets on Thursday unveiled a new black, sleeved “Pride” uniform to be worn beginning next season. The uniform, which can be worn as many as six times during the season, features the words “Buzz City” on the front, along with the Buzz City logo on the waistband. Player names on the back of the jersey and the Buzz City logo are all in solid teal. The uniform features stripes in a teal-white-teal pattern on both sides that cross at the bottom of the shorts just below a teal silhouette logo (Hornets). Hornets President & COO Fred Whitfield said, "We wanted a uniform that had a lot of pop ... We felt that the black would be something that made a statement, but also had a lot of class to it and would also be dynamic in nature." Hornets Exec VP and Chief Sales & Marketing Manager Pete Guelli and Whitfield said that they have "not ruled out pinstripes, which were on the original Hornets jerseys, for future uniforms" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 6/26).

CLOTHES MAKE THE MEN: Fashion expert Sam Saboura reviewed some of the new NBA jerseys for ESPN's "SportsCenter" as part of a segment where he critiqued the appearance of several NBA draftees. ESPN's Stan Verrett noted the Clippers saw a “lot of fanfare about their new design.” Saboura said, “I'm loving the kind of ABA throwback of that logo. We've been hearing a lot of nonsense online -- this resembles the Cubs' logo. I do like the throwback here; I like the style, the simplicity of it. It’s not most exciting uniform for all the hubbub, but I think they look pretty good.” Verrett noted the 76ers' new uniforms also have a “throwback look.” Saboura said those were not his favorite, adding, "I don't know that it's that exciting, but it does look nice and clean, very memorable and definitely, definitely [a] retro look.” Verrett also noted the Hawks are “going with a new color scheme, and what jumps out at you is the neon yellow.” Saboura said those jerseys have a “Japanese kind of anime feeling to this, that neon color, that texture running around in the background of the jerseys there." He added, "It's cool, it's interesting. I'm not a huge fan of the neon. Otherwise, I really like the look” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 6/26).
