Top Twitter TV Events During '14-15 Season Heavy On Sports Telecasts

Super Bowl XLIX on NBC this past February was the most-tweeted event on TV during the ’14-15 TV season, with several other sporting events performing strongly, according to data from Nielsen. The Patriots-Seahawks matchup on Feb. 1 had 16.1 million people seeing tweets about the game, halftime show and ads. A total of 25.1 million tweets were sent about the event. The most-tweeted TV minute during the ’14-15 TV season also took place during the Super Bowl, with 243,000 event-related tweets sent at 8:19pm ET that night during the halftime show. Looking at other events, the Grammys on Feb. 8 had the second-best Twitter audience with 13.3 million people seeing tweets about the event, followed by the Oscars on Feb. 22 with 13.0 million. The Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2 ranked No. 4 with 11.6 million people seeing tweets. This past TV season ran from Sept. 1, 2014 through May 24, 2015 (Nielsen).
