Buyers & Sellers: Gary Matthews Jr. Lists Orange County Home For $15.5M

Former MLBer GARY MATTHEWS JR. has put his Corona del Mar, Calif., home on the market for $15.5M, which is $12.5M "more than what he paid for the property" in '10. At that price, a sale "would be among the highest valued single-family home transactions ever for the Orange County community." The 6,232-square-foot home has a "modern center-island kitchen, four bedrooms and five bathrooms." A lower-level lounge "holds a glass-enclosed trophy room, an office, a wet bar and a wine cellar with a tasting area." Walls of glass "slide to reveal an infinity-edge pool with a raised spa" (LATIMES.com, 5/28)....Pro Football HOFer GALE SAYERS on April 29 "sold a two-bedroom, 1,225-square-foot condo" in Chicago for $395,000 (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 5/20)....Tennis player SERENA WILLIAMS has paid $2.5M for a "newly built home" in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. The home is on a 1.25-acre lot, but its square-footage "couldn't be determined because it's so new that the property appraiser hasn't reviewed it" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/26)....ESPN's BRAD DAUGHERTY "has bought a house" in Santa Barbara, Calif., for $2.36M. The property "includes an updated ranch-style house, a swimming pool with a spa, a three-stall barn and a tack area on more than two acres." The 2,136-square-foot home was built in '53 and includes three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms (LATIMES.com, 5/21)....Former NHLer ALEXANDER FROLOV put his Manhattan Beach house on the market for $2.995M after buying it in '06. Marked by "large pillars, the 4,472-square-foot home has a step-down entry, tile and hardwood flooring and vaulted ceilings" (LATIMES.com, 5/22).
