S.F. Official Downplays Opposition Group's Concerns Over New Warriors Arena

After a previously unknown group announced its opposition to the Warriors’ planned arena in S.F., city officials on Wednesday said that they "have parking and traffic issues under control," according Michael Cabanatuan of the S.F. CHRONICLE. S.F. Project Manager Adam Van de Water said that since the Warriors announced plans to move their arena site from Piers 30-32 on the Embarcadero to Mission Bay a year ago, the city "has routinely met with neighbors, UCSF officials and the Giants to work out parking and traffic issues." The city and the Warriors have "secured 132 new spaces in a lot near the arena and are in negotiations with the Port of San Francisco to use at least 250 spaces at Pier 70 during events, as well as up to 1,000 spaces at Pier 80, with a shuttle to the arena." Thousands of spaces in private lots "may also be available during events." The opposition group called the Mission Bay Alliance had recently "announced its opposition to the arena, citing concerns over parking and traffic" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/1).
