MLB Facility Notes: Technology Expanding Throughout AT&T Park With Wi-Fi, Apple Pay

In S.F., Ron Leuty wrote Wi-Fi, food ordering and Apple Pay are the "most practical improvements for fans" who attend Giants games at AT&T Park this season. The ballpark's distributed antenna system (DAS) "is growing" as an additional 400 antennas placed under select seats "will be added to the 'view reserve' section in the upper deck" this year. Ordering food by smart phone has been upgraded to include an "expanded menu as well as delivery of popular Tony's Slice House pizza to any seat." For fans using the "traditional route of buying food at concession stands, the Giants expect Apple Pay sales to increase;" the service is accepted at "about half" of the concession stands (BIZJOURNALS.com, 4/17).

BRAVE NEW WORLD: In Atlanta, J. Scott Trubey reported the planned mixed-use development space adjacent to the Braves' new SunTrust Park will include "high-end retailers on par with J.Crew, Anthropologie and lululemon, but not ultra-luxury brands such as Gucci." Fuqua Development Principal Jeff Fuqua, who is heading up the retail and restaurant portion of the project, said that the developers "have held discussions with about 40 restaurant groups, including many headed by local chefs," as well as N.Y.-based firms (AJC.com, 4/17).

HEALTH CONCERNS: K.C.-based KSHB-TV's Halligan, Sloan & Bergan reported the city's health department found that 16 eateries at Kauffman Stadium "had at least one 'critical' violation in inspections," which were conducted one day after KSHB "reported on violations recorded on Opening Day" (KSHB.com, 4/19).
