Jazz Purchase D-League Affiliate, Don't Rule Out Move From Idaho To Utah

The Jazz have purchased their NBA D-League affiliate, and while team execs yesterday "expressed optimism" that the Idaho Stampede will stay in the Boise market, they "didn’t rule out moving it closer to home," according to Chadd Cripe of the IDAHO STATESMAN. The Jazz have “signed a one-year contract extension” with Boise's CenturyLink Arena through the ‘15-16 season. Jazz President Randy Rigby said that the franchise has already “started talks with CenturyLink Arena and the city of Boise” about the D-League team's future in the area. Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey said that the team “would like to have a practice facility that could be used for community events.” Cripe notes the Jazz “will take over full business operations” and Stampede President & GM Steve Brandes “will be retained.” Stampede Managing Investor Bill Ilett said that the time was “right to sell in part because he’s 70 years old, the franchise requires a lot of work and he has enjoyed his relationship” with Jazz execs. Cripe notes the Jazz are the "eighth NBA team to purchase a D-League franchise as the 18-team league moves toward its goal of having 30 teams owned by the 30 NBA franchises” (IDAHO STATESMAN, 3/25).
