Franchise Notes

In Nashville, Jim Wyatt noted Titans President & CEO Tommy Smith in a letter to season-ticket holders "thanked fans for their support over the years and promised better things to come." Smith vowed to "continue to build a winning team" on the heels of a 2-14 season. Smith also discussed plans for concession upgrades, including "price reductions on key concession items" and "more local cuisine offerings" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 2/24). Smith added that concession workers would be receiving extra training to "improve the quality of speed and service" (TENNESSEAN.com, 2/24).

MEET THE HEAT: The AP's Tim Reynolds reported NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spent Monday with the Heat, "meeting with the team's business department." Silver said, "This is truly a model franchise, not just in the NBA but in all of sports." Silver also "lauded the work" of Heat Owner Micky Arison, CEO Nick Arison, President Pat Riley and President of Business Operations Eric Woolworth. Silver: "A commissioner's dream is to have an organization like this" (AP, 2/23).

COLOSSAL COLISEUM COSTS: On Long Island, Baumbach & Marshall reported the Islanders and their lease partner, SMG, owe Nassau County more than $3.6M in "unpaid rent, utilities and revenue payments" for Nassau Coliseum. County Comptroller George Maragos is recommending "collection action and legal action." As recently as Dec. 24, the Islanders and SMG owed Nassau a total of $4.9M, however, a $1.25M payment made on Dec. 23 "wasn't reflected" in the documents (NEWSDAY, 2/24).
