Subway Stays With Carl Edwards As He Moves To JGR, Will Sponsor Car For Four Races

Subway officially has followed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Carl Edwards from Roush Fenway Racing to Joe Gibbs Racing, as the QSR is "scheduled to be primary sponsor of his No. 19 Toyota Camry four times" this season, according to Adam Stern of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Subway had been with Edwards and RFR for six years, and company Dir of Sports Marketing, PR & Partnerships Paul Bamundo said that while Subway's "relationship with Roush was good, the sandwich maker had built up so much brand equity with Edwards, it felt committed to switching teams with him." An ad during Sunday's Daytona 500 will debut featuring Edwards and Gibbs. The spot, via MMB, Boston, depicts Edwards "in a gym working out with fellow longtime Subway endorser Jay Glazer." The two "playfully rib each other" about their favorite subs before Gibbs "lets them know that their tastes are too strong for his liking" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 2/16 issue).
