Boston's Local Rating For Super Bowl XLIX Is Best For Any Market Over The Last Decade

Boston’s 61.0 local rating for Patriots-Seahawks was not only the market’s best figure ever for a Super Bowl, but the best Super Bowl local rating among all U.S. markets over at least the past decade. No other market has drawn over a 60.0 rating for a Super Bowl over the last 10 years. Baltimore drew a 59.6 for the Ravens’ appearance in the ’13 game, while Pittsburgh and Milwaukee each drew a 59.7 local rating for Packers-Steelers in ’11. The 61.0 rating in Boston was also well ahead of the market’s rating for the Patriots' two previous Super Bowl appearances. Boston drew a 56.7 in ’12 and a 55.6 in ’08. Meanwhile, New Orleans finished No. 2 among all markets with a 55.7 local rating.

FLIGHT PATTERN: Seattle-Tacoma drew a 52.1 local rating for the Seahawks’ second-straight Super Bowl appearance. That figure ranked only 17th among all markets and was down 8% from a 56.7 last year. The 52.1 rating also is down 4% from a 54.4 for the Seahawks’ appearance in the ’06 Super Bowl.

HOST WITH THE MOST: Phoenix drew a 55.6 local rating for Sunday's game, ranking it as the No. 3 market for Patriots-Seahawks and setting a new record for the market for a Super Bowl. The previous high was a 51.1 rating for Packers-Steelers in ’11. When Glendale last hosted the event in ‘08, the market drew a 47.0 rating.

NOTES: Miami-Ft. Lauderdale was once again the lowest-rated metered market for the Super Bowl with a 38.7 local rating. For the second year in a row, it was the only market to draw under a 40.0 rating. Las Vegas drew a 53.0 rating for Patriots-Seahawks, marking its best Super Bowl figure in at least a decade. Listed below are local ratings for Super Bowl XLIX among the 56 metered markets in the U.S., with comparisons to last year’s game and previous Super Bowl telecasts on NBC over the last decade.
