Pro Football HOFer Warren Sapp "has been terminated from NFL Network following his arrest for soliciting a prostitute and assault in Phoenix" early yesterday morning, according to Richard Deitsch of SI.com. Sapp "has been an analyst with the network" since '08 and was in Arizona for coverage of Super Bowl XLIX. Sapp "nearly lost his NFL Network analyst job" in '12 when he tweeted that former NFLer Jeremy Shockey "was an informant (Sapp used the word 'snitch') in the Saints bounty scandal" (SI.com, 2/2). Police said that Sapp "admitted involvement in the prostitution but denied assaulting the women" (WSJ.com, 2/2). In N.Y., Christian Red notes this is "not the first time Sapp has run into legal trouble," as he was arrested by Miami Beach authorities in February '10 and "charged with misdemeanor domestic battery." Sapp was "pulled from the NFL Network’s Super Bowl coverage following that arrest" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/3). Radio host Dan Patrick said he was "not surprised but bummed" that Sapp was fired. Patrick: "He’s had a couple of chances there. Not anymore” (“The Dan Patrick Show,” 2/3). CBS’ Armen Keteyian called Sapp's situation "just profoundly stupid on so many levels" (“CBS This Morning,” 2/3). ESPN’s Keith Olbermann said “in a tradition as old as the game itself, we did have the annual NFL Super Bowl-related prostitution sting arrest” (“Olbermann,” ESPN2, 2/2).
