JOHNNY ON THE SPOT: ESPN.com's Darren Rovell noted Manziel's "spot atop the jersey-sales list is the highest a Browns player has been since the league has kept track of individual players' sales (2001)." In '07, then-Browns QB Brady Quinn "went into the season with the No. 2 best-selling jersey" behind former NFLer LaDainian Tomlinson (ESPN.com, 7/21). In Cleveland, Chris Fedor wrote Manziel "may not be" the Browns' starting QB in Week 1, but his "popularity is unquestioned" (CLEVELAND.com, 7/21).

ON THE MIKE: ESPN.com's Nick Wagoner noted Rams DE Michael Sam is "one of only two defensive players," along with Seahawks CB Richard Sherman, "to make the top 10." Sam's "historic announcement and pursuit of a roster spot in St. Louis has transcended his draft position and made his jersey a hot commodity among fans." If "nothing else, Sam's jersey is already considered something of a collector's item." It will "likely continue to sell well, but it's still a piece of memorabilia that could have a short shelf life." There "aren't many fans who buy jerseys of a player who is far from a lock to make his team's roster" (ESPN.com, 7/21).

VIKING QUEST: In Minneapolis, Michael Rand noted Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater comes in at No. 13, which technically makes his jersey "more popular" than that of RB Adrian Peterson, who ranks 14th. But it is "a bit of an unfair fight, of course, since the countless fans who already have" Peterson jerseys "presumably weren’t in any particular rush over the past four months to get brand new AP jerseys" (STARTRIBUNE.com, 7/21).
