West Virginia Season-Ticket Sales For Football At Lowest Point Since After '05 Campaign

West Virginia as of Wednesday had sold 28,983 season tickets for football, the "lowest figure at this point since the Mountaineers were at roughly 24,400" after the '05 campaign, according to Mike Casazza of the CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL. WVU Associate AD/External Affairs Matt Wells said, "One thing it shows is, yes, the numbers are down. There’s no denying that. But overall, I think even with it being a down year, our season-ticket base is still stronger than it was 10 years ago." The team is also a "reasonable option on the secondary ticket market." VividSeats data showed that WVU has the 20th most-expensive median ticket price "in the country ($95) and the fifth-highest in the Big 12." Wells: "Pricing is always something we consider. One of the factors for why we haven’t raised ticket prices the last three seasons is we’re always cognizant of pricing ourselves out of the market." Wells said that he "doesn't believe that the secondary market is that detrimental to season ticket figures." WVU "has found a way to benefit from that through a partnership with StubHub." Wells: "The secondary market is not going anywhere. We could either stick our heads in the sand and act like it doesn’t exist or partner with them and integrate our system." WVU and StubHub "are in the second year of a three-year contract that features StubHub marketing and sponsorship, but also a demographic-sharing effort to help the school" (CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL, 7/19).

EARNING THEIR STRIPES: Clemson Assistant AD/Communications Joe Galbraith on Wednesday said that the school "had sold all of the more than 52,000 season tickets at Memorial Stadium for its seven-game home schedule." The AP noted Clemson's athletic ticket office "is selling single-game tickets for all home games at Death Valley except for the season-finale with South Carolina on Nov. 29." The school said that it "surpassed last year's season-ticket sales by more than 1,000 (AP, 7/10). In South Carolina, Aaron Brenner noted more than 90% of last year's season tickets "were renewed, and 4,500 new requests rolled in after the Tigers' second straight 11-2 season and an Orange Bowl victory" (Charleston POST & COURIER, 7/10).

SEA OF RED: In Lubbock, Robinson & Talbot noted Texas Tech "has sold out of season football tickets for the first time in history." The program’s previous season-ticket record was set in '10, when 32,227 seats "were sold, and this year’s total is 7,000 more than last season." The school "sold 38,502 passes for the 2014 season, which features home games against Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma" (LUBBOCKONLINE.com, 7/9).
