ESPN To Produce Fundraising Drive For V Foundation Leading Up To ESPYs Broadcast

ESPN will produce an on-air fundraising drive preceding next month's ESPYs telecast. Fundraising efforts across multiple ESPN platforms for "ESPY Day Benefitting The V Foundation for Cancer Research" start at midnight July 16 and run up to the 9:00pm ET telecast, which will be simulcast on ESPN2 with added fundraising elements and more social media integration (with the hashtag #DontEverGiveUp). Programming starts the day before the event when Sage Steele hosts "Don't Ever Give Up: The ESPYs Jimmy V Award for Perseverance" at 7:00pm July 15 on ESPN2. The show is made up of speeches from previous winners of the ESPYs' Jimmy V Award. Fundraising programming kicks off at midnight on "The Freddie Coleman Show" on ESPNews and ESPN Radio and will be part of ESPN's high-profile radio shows "Mike and Mike," "The Herd" and "SVP & Russillo." In addition to on-air fundraising and auctions, "SportsCenter" will feature "Don't Ever Give Up" vignettes of sports stars like Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari, Eagles RB LeSean McCoy and Colts coach Chuck Pagano. Tom Rinaldi narrated a feature on how cancer patients find healing through sports. Last year, ESPN raised $2M for the V Foundation. This year, viewers will be directed to 800-4-JimmyV and JimmyV.org to donate. ESPN is donating $1 per ticket to the V Foundation.
