Kentucky, Louisville Announce Nationally Televised Game Benefiting Basketball HOF

Both Louisville and Kentucky yesterday announced that "they'll play Dec. 27 at the KFC Yum! Center in a game televised on ESPN2 and called the 'Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout,'" according to Kyle Tucker of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. A portion of the proceeds from the game "will benefit the non-profit Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass." Tipoff time for the game "has not yet been set." UL will "manage the Hall of Fame Shootout as a regular season home game, with tickets included in the Cardinals' season ticket package" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 6/17). The game will mark the "second time a portion of game revenue has been donated" to the HOF, as Louisville "made a similar donation from a home game against Memphis" in '11. HOF Dir of Events & Awards Greg Procino said that the facility "wants to be a destination for basketball fans around the world." He called the UK-UL game a "good exposure opportunity." UL Senior Associate AD/Media Relations & SID Kenny Klein said the game against UK next season was selected "because among our non-conference home games that were not already identified for other purposes, it was the most high-profile." Procino added that added that UL coach Rick Pitino's '13 induction into the HOF "made the time seem right for another such game next season" (LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 6/17).
