NHL Kings Launch Video-Board Ad Featuring Will Ferrell Near MSG In One-Day Stunt

The NHL Kings "purchased video-board advertising in Times Square" near MSG, which on Friday featured a video of comedian Will Ferrell "imploring fans -- in text below the screen, no audio -- to roar, 'Go Kings Go!,'" according to Lance Pugmire of the L.A. TIMES. Kings VP/Communications & Broadcasting Michael Altieri said, "There’s a lot of attention and buzz surrounding the Stanley Cup Final. Our goal is to rise above the noise. This was an opportunity to do that with respect to the Kings and NHL, with no disrespect to the Rangers." The video was "a one-day activation dreamed up by the team’s marketing department" (LATIMES.com, 6/7). Meanwhile, in N.Y., John Branch wrote when it "comes to Cup fever, Manhattan might pale to its sunny, cross-country namesake, Manhattan Beach, and that town’s next-door neighbor, Hermosa Beach." Branch: "Think there is no widespread passion for the Kings among the sprawl of Los Angeles?" Manhattan Beach's City Hall has "Go Kings Go!" banners, "an urging repeated on bars, boutiques and surf shops." Manhattan Beach Mayor Amy Howorth: "People are into the Kings more than even the Lakers or the Dodgers" (N.Y. TIMES, 6/7).

ALBERTA ADVANTAGE: The Kings announced an extension of their partnership with Travel Alberta that will look to showcase the province's summer and winter experiences. Alberta will continue to be the "Preferred International Travel Destination of the LA Kings." Travel Alberta also will receive in-arena signage, online exposure, in-market activations, an LA Live Plaza takeover and marketing opportunites in and around the LA Kings Holiday Ice at LA Live (Kings).
