NCAA President Mark Emmert Scheduled To Testify At Ed O'Bannon Image Rights Trial

NCAA President Mark Emmert "will testify during the trial of the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit relating to the names, images and likenesses of college athletes," according to court filings cited by Jon Solomon of CBSSPORTS.com. The O'Bannon plaintiffs identified Emmert, former NCAA VP & Senior Advisor to the President Wally Renfro and NCAA VP/Division I David Berst as "witnesses they want to appear live," and all three are "scheduled to testify for the defense at the June 9 trial in Oakland." The document was "part of hundreds of documents filed in pretrial motions as the trial date approaches." The filings also "revealed disagreement about whether the NCAA should be allowed to call" former Nike, adidas and Reebok exec Sonny Vaccaro -- a "longtime and vocal critic of the NCAA" -- to testify (CBSSPORTS.com, 5/14).
