Overnight Ratings: Super Bowl Sees Halftime Audience Up For Bruno Mars Performance

Fox earned a 48.6 overnight rating for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show featuring Bruno Mars, up 1% from Beyonce’s performance in last year’s game on CBS. Bruno Mars also was up from a 48.1 overnight for Madonna in ’12 on NBC, and up from a 47.4 for the Black Eyed Peas on Fox in ’11. Fox also drew a 10.4 overnight for its Super Bowl pregame show yesterday from 2:00-6:00pm ET, down 5% from an 11.0 overnight last year on CBS, and down 13% from a 12.0 on NBC in ’12.

DESERT DISH: CBS earned a 2.6 overnight for the final round of the PGA Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open, which saw Kevin Stadler win his first event on the Tour. That figure is down from 3.3 overnight last year, which featured a Phil Mickelson victory. Third round coverage drew a 2.0 overnight on Saturday, down slightly from a 2.1 rating last year.

NOTES: Duke-Syracuse led all college basketball games in overnight ratings over the weekend. ESPN drew a 2.9 overnight for the game on Saturday from 6:30-9:00pm ET, marking the net’s fourth-best overnight on record for a regular-season college hoops game (records go back to ’02). The game drew a 2.8 local rating in N.Y., which is ESPN’s best figure on record in the market for a regular-season college hoops game. Greensboro led all local markets with a 13.1 rating, followed by Raleigh-Durham (11.4).
