Facility Notes

Daytona Int'l Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said of the track's efforts to host college football games after its upgraded grandstands are completed, "We have the property, where fans can camp inside and roll out to the game. It could be the largest tailgate inside one stadium. ... The grass area is a ball field, a football field. It had college football and we want to get back into the mix." SI.com's Tim Newcomb noted DIS previously hosted at least four college football games from '74-75 (SI.com, 1/21).

MUSIC CITY: In Nashville, Jamie McGee notes companies "have already started vying" for naming rights to the Triple-A PCL Nashville Sounds' new $38M ballpark, scheduled to open in April '15. The 10,000-seat facility "brings a host of branding opportunities for local companies." John Triggs, adviser to the Sounds owners, said that the team is "looking for a name that is 'well-recognized,' appropriate for Nashville and that makes the most sense financially for the team" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 1/22).

BREW CITY: In Milwaukee, Don Walker noted Miller Park stadium district collected $26.1M last year from the 0.1% sales tax, "a 1.39% increase" from '12. The district's sales tax distribution for December was $1.74M, "nearly 11% below last year's December distribution and the lowest December distribution" since '03. Since the inception of the tax, $418,724,494 "has been collected" (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/22).
