Executive Transactions

Fiesta Bowl Exec Dir ROBERT SHELTON "abruptly resigned" on Monday to "become president of Tucson-based Research Corporation for Science Advancement." Shelton said it was a "mutual" decision (ARIZONA REPUBLIC, 1/15). Shelton took the job in '11 "amid a scandal that rocked the foundation of one of college football's major events." His predecessor JOHN JUNKER "resigned following a scathing internal report outlining lavish spending." But under Shelton, the Fiesta Bowl "repaired its image, expanded charitable contributions" and retained its BCS status before landing future semifinal and championship games for the College Football Playoff. Fiesta Bowl BOD Chair DUANE WOODS "will serve as interim executive director while a search for a replacement is conducted" (AP, 1/14).
