Nike To Open Jordan Brand Stores, With First Location In N.Y. Near MSG

Jordan Brand this past weekend confirmed that it "plans to build stores that will exclusively sell the Nike brand's apparel and footwear," according to Matthew Kish of the PORTLAND BUSINESS JOURNAL. The first store -- "which for the time being looks like a giant box of Air Jordan sneakers" -- is just a block from Madison Square Garden. Nike in a release said the N.Y. store is a first in a "series of planned premium" Jordan Brand retail outlets. Jordan Brand is "working in partnership" with the Foot Locker-owned retailer Footaction on the store concept, "known as Flight 23." Details about the store's opening date were not immediately available (BIZJOURNALS.com, 1/13). In Portland, Allan Brettman notes the "first hint" of the store's location "was an 18-foot tall Jordan shoebox that appeared Friday at the site, serving as a construction barrier" (Portland OREGONIAN, 1/14).
