MLB Franchise Notes: Royals Keep Options Open With Moore's Short Extension

In K.C., Sam Mellinger wrote Royals Senior VP/Baseball Operations & GM Dayton Moore's two-year contract extension was "necessary and justified" because GMs without job security "can lean too hard on win-now, sacrificing some long-term strength." But Royals Chair David Glass is "going something less than all-in with Moore's front office," as the deal is a "relatively short-term commitment in the world of professional sports." Moore's extension "is a conservative show of confidence and sign of gratitude" from Glass, but it is "not so long that he can't change his mind" (K.C. STAR, 11/30).

MARINERS MOVING ON: In Seattle, Ryan Divish reported Mariners Chair & CEO Howard Lincoln knew about team President & COO Chuck Armstrong's recent decision to step down "a week before and about the possibility well before that." Lincoln "started thinking about Armstrong's successor" a while ago. Lincoln said that he is "still in the early stages" of the replacement process, and that he is "receiving dozens of calls with recommendations daily." There "is no defined outline for a candidate or what his résumé should have on it, but there are a few expectations" (SEATTLE TIMES, 12/1).

WAIT 'TIL NEXT YEAR? In Chicago, Josh Noel, who had his place on the Cubs' season-ticket waiting list come up this offseason, wrote, "What does a Cubs fan do when given the opportunity to buy into this staggering mess?" A Cubs salesperson said of this offseason, "We're expected to get through about 20,000 spots on the waiting list." Noel: "A lot of people must be saying no, a longtime bulletproof ticket in this town has become a questionable bet" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 12/1).
