Comcast SportsNet To Provide Philadelphia's NBC Affiliate With Sports Coverage

Philadelphia-based WCAU-NBC is "seeking a ratings edge in local TV news," and announced it will "get its sports coverage from the 150-employee Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia," according to Bob Fernandez of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. CSN Philadelphia President & GM Brian Monihan said that the RSN beginning in January will "produce and provide complete sports coverage" for WCAU's 6:00pm and 11:00pm ET newscasts. The WCAU sports report "will remain in the same place" in the 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts. WCAU officials believe that CSN programming "will be more distinctive than what the station produces presently." Comcast/NBCUniversal announced the first arrangement between a Comcast RSN and a local NBC station in S.F. in '11. The RSN in Northern California that year "began supplying newscasts" to KTNV-ABC, which covers S.F., San Jose, and Oakland (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 11/19).
