MLB Franchise Notes: Twins Relocating Fanfest To Target Field

The Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE noted the Twins will "move TwinsFest to Target Field for the first time." Ticket sales for the Jan. 24-26 event will "be limited because the event has been moved from the Metrodome, where it has been held most years since its inception" in '89. Season-ticket holders will "no longer automatically receive free tickets." Tickets will "cost $20 for adults and $10 for children 14 and under" (STARTRIBUNE.com, 10/29).

BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITI: Mets GM Sandy Alderson yesterday said he believes Mets COO Jeff Wilpon was speaking "off the cuff" on Tuesday in regards to the team's roster and payroll. In N.Y., Dan Martin notes Alderson "echoed Wilpon's sentiment he will be able to spend more freely in the coming months now that some of the team's higher-priced players such as Johan Santana are gone," but he "warned against expecting a spending spree." Alderson: "Finances are always an issue, with every team. But, certainly, we have a lot more flexibility than we've had in the past" (N.Y. POST, 10/31).

HOPING FOR THE WORST? In N.Y., Joel Sherman wondered if the Yankees can stick to their plan to "get under" the $189M luxury-tax threshold next season with 3B Alex Rodriguez "on the dockets." Sherman: "Sure. But it would hamstring them in addressing their myriad other problems, especially if they still intend to sign [2B] Robinson Cano long-term." The most likely rulings by MLB arbitrator Fredric Horowitz are "to reduce the penalty to 50 games, cut it to 150 games, make it all of next season or honor the full 211." Anything but the 50 games "would be a great help for the Yanks" (N.Y. POST, 10/30).
