Overnight Ratings: PGA Tour Phoenix Open Sees Boost From Phil Mickelson's Win

On a weekend dominated by the Super Bowl, the PGA Tour and college basketball saw some impressive overnight Nielsen ratings. NBC earned a 3.3 overnight for the final round of the PGA Tour Waste Management Phoenix Open, which saw Phil Mickelson win by four strokes. That figure was up 65% from the final round last year, won by Kyle Stanley. Saturday’s coverage earned a 2.1 overnight, marking the best third round overnight for the event since ’06. Golf Channel also benefited from Mickelson’s performance. The first round of the event on Thursday, which saw Mickelson just miss shooting a 59, marked the highest-rated early round ever for the Phoenix open. Meanwhile, ESPN led all basketball telecasts over the weekend with a 2.7 overnight for Indiana’s win over previously No. 1-ranked Michigan on Saturday night.

The chart below lists overnight Nielsen ratings from weekend sports telecasts on broadcast TV.
