Andy Murray's U.S. Open Win In A Five-Set Thriller Earns CBS 2.3 Overnight Rating

CBS earned a 2.3 overnight Nielsen rating for its coverage of the five-set Andy Murray-Novak Djokovic U.S. Open final Monday. The match was down from a 2.6 for last year's Djokovic-Rafael Nadal final, but up from a 2.2 for the '10 Nadal-Djokovic final. Both of those matches were also held on a Monday. Last night's match began with a 1.6 rating in the 4:00-4:30pm ET window but grew as the match continued, peaking with a 4.2 rating in the 9:00-9:15pm window (THE DAILY). In Baltimore, David Zurawik noted WJZ-CBS "cut away" from Murray-Djokovic at 6:30pm "to go to its Baltimore Ravens pre-game show." The station "started running a crawl about 6:10 p.m. telling viewers they could follow the men's finals by going online to the station's website." Zurawik: "Of course, that was little help to people who do not have online access" (BALTIMORESUN.com, 9/10).
